As if cheap car insurance wasn’t appealing on its own, enter the world of car insurance add-ons. What are add-ons? Think of apps on your smart phone. At its core, the technology is great and will serve you well, but it’s in the apps, that you unlock further device potential, and make it even more useful.
Have a look at some of our favorites here:
- RTI or Return To Invoice: Accidents are just that – accidents, and unless you’re rung some type of scam, you’re not going to be prepared on the fly for the disorientation that comes with one. The Return To Invoice add-on is particularly valuable to first time car owners, new car owners and new drivers. By affixing this to your policy, you will be provided with an option to avail the full value of your car, in the event it gets completely damaged (written off) in an accident, or otherwise. This add-on is specifically beneficial to the policy holder, because it can facilitate a full reimbursement, minus the traditional 5% deprecation. Are there cons to this add-on? Well, the Return To Invoice is generally only available to policy holders within the first year of buying a vehicle. Snag this one up as soon as you can!
- NCB or No-Claim Bonus Protection: If you’ve given your insurance provider years of unwavering loyalty to the policy they wrote up for you, you stand to attain a reward, or a bonus, as it were. Once you start filing claims, not only does it mean that you’re going to be perceived as a danger or a liability, it doesn’t bode well on your premium rate. But if you’re a safe driver, who uses safe routes, takes care of the vehicle and avoids accidents or dangerous driving situations like the plague, your car insurance company may provide you with what’s known as the No-Claim Bonus. But if you have even one accident, your eligibility for this bonus may actually plummet. This add-on, NCB Protection, means that your entitlement to the bonus will not be compromised, within reason. If you’re crashing cars like gangbusters, stop reading now; you’re ineligible. But if you’re confident in your road acumen, go ahead and enjoy this discounted protection, even after you file one pesky claim.
- Comprehensive Coverage: You may think that insuring your car is enough to make it through your daily driving life, but upon further scrutiny, the exact opposite may prove true. Especially in areas that are prone to flooding and water-based disasters, you may want to protect your engine and circuit boards with this nifty add-on. In the event that your car’s engine or circuit board becomes compromised or damaged in a flood, you will want to have this add–on to buffer what can most certainly be some exorbitant costs to repair, replace and recalibrate. Comprehensive coverage will also protect your car from fire, theft, vandalism, and other unforeseen risks like damage by animals. It’s important to check the fine print before adding comprehensive coverage to understand what is covered by your individual car insurance companies policies.
In the end add-ons are not necessary but can provide extra protection for your car and provide you with piece of mind.
